The Cowichan Artisans are a well-known group of professional artists in the Cowichan Valley. We have a good reputation with a solid base of clients and followers. We strive to include a wide variety of mediums including painters, sculptors, jewelers, fabric artists, ceramics, collage, wood turning, mosaics etc. We help promote and support each other and together we have more of an impact and reach a broader audience.
To become a member of the Cowichan Artisans you need to be a full-time professional artist working to a high standard in your chosen medium. Your work needs to include one-of-a-kind high end gallery pieces. All applicants are juried by the current group.
Application Deadlines:
We only take new members once each year – with applications due by April 30th. Notification happens by the end of May, and those selected must be available for the first meeting in June.
Artists interested in applying need to have the following in place:
– live and work in the Cowichan Valley
-a studio or gallery space that the public can safely come visit
-a website and social media accounts that are attractive and kept up to date reflecting the standard of the group
-pay a yearly fee of $550 dollars plus initial road sign costs and expected to pay in a timely manner
-you need to have your own insurance for your studio and gallery
– you will attend all or most of our meetings (approximately 10-12 during the year)
– participate in promoting the group and tours and includes distributing brochures
– assist in finding advertisers (Jan. to April every year)
– participate with jobs in the group such as taking a turn at being chair of a meeting, secretary, treasurer , man the website, social media posts etc…
